Google Nest Hub Max: How to turn on Look and Talk

Siri then sends your voice recordings to Apple’s servers so they can use voice-recognition technology to respond to your questions and commands. You can opt out of having your interactions with Apple’s Siri stored and reviewed through your device’s settings and you can delete recordings; instructions are here. Apple does not appear to give users the option to review their recordings. This will disable Google Assistant from being activated inside of Google Maps. The Google Maps app will not listen to you unless you manually tap the microphone icon on the main screen to trigger a voice command. If you’ve never checked the Google Assistant setting in the Google Maps app on your phone, then Google Maps could be listening to you for voice commands as well.

On the Driving Mode screen, make sure the toggle to the right of Driving Mode is disabled. In your web browser, visit Google My Activity, and in the right pane, select Web & App Activity. Android Auto also activates voice recognition when you say “Hey Google”. Google Maps needs to activate voice recognition whenever you say “Hey Google”. Tap your account avatar at the top-right of the screen.

The report is part of a still-in-progress larger study, which will also look into what happens to all the data these voice-activated assistants collect. Choffnes hopes consumers will feel more informed and better able to decide for themselves if the privacy risk that comes with voice-activated devices is worth the reward. And that’s assuming consumers even have that option at all.

It’s not necessary that Google or any other voice assistant service might be eavesdropping on your conversations. If you want the phone to respond instead, the best option is to walk out of the Google Home's listening range. When you open the Google Home app, you can see your activity. This includes things like the things you’ve said, the things you’ve asked, and the things that have been done with your voice.

Now, the Google app will have no access to your phone’s microphone. You can rest assured that Google won’t be able to listen to you at any time through this app. Once this is disabled, all voice commands you issue to Google Assistant, Google Search, or Google Maps won’t get logged into your Google account.

By now you must be wondering what your devices are hearing. As it happens, you might be able to hear the recordings for yourself — and delete them and stop others from listening in. Here’s how to take control of your favorite voice assistants.

How to stop your Google Home from listening to you by changing its settings

Our articles have been read over 275 million times since we launched in 2007. Another app that listens to you for voice commands is Android Auto. There is a setting buried in this app that lets you turn off this feature so that the app isn’t always listening to you. You can prevent your Google Home from listening to your conversations by turning off the microphone or change your privacy settings to prevent Google from storing your audio data.

The Nest Hub Max will automatically disable Look and Talk when music or videos are playing, when streaming footage from a security camera, or when Guest Mode is activated. If the speaker is on, but it still doesn’t seem to be responding, check the physical placement of the device. Dishwashers, air vents, and a host of other noisemakers may prevent the Home from hearing users properly. If so, try moving it to a quieter area and see if it works better.

How to hear (and delete) every conversation your Google Home has recorded

There’s plenty of anecdotal evidence that voice-activated assistants aren’t perfect and will wake up accidentally and start recording if they think you’ve said their trigger word. But Northeastern’s Monr Research Group wanted to quantify for the first time how often these activations happen and what the devices hear when they do. Some people are concerned that this data could be used to track their movements or personal information.

Therefore, the camera can trigger all the time, and it will feed its video stream continually. Anyway, the consumption of data usage for the doorbell video stream is really high in most commercial products. You can easily find the defective product by turn on and off each product while monitoring the data usage for a known amount of time. So, if you are facing a problem with monthly data more than above-mentioned range, then there could be an alternative reason behind it. To properly work all these devices, it will require a minimum bandwidth of ~5 Mbps.

If you’re worried about your privacy, you can always turn off the microphone on the speaker. Google has always defended their data collection practices, stating that it is purely for the purpose of improving their speech recognition accuracy. They claim that this data is never used for any other purpose, and that it is only collected during periods of active use. Nevertheless, many people remain nervous about the privacy implications of this data collection. To get started, log in to your Google account via a web browser. Click your profile picture in the top right, click on “Google Account,” and afterward you’ll be taken to an overview page.

I think the best explanation is that Google is producing AutoComplete options by means beyond the user's understanding. Each recording or set of recordings is presented on its own card. Google retains a copy of the recordings to improve its software.
